How to Set Up Publishing Accounts: A Step-by-Step Guide for Indie Authors

For use with Oak and Apex publishing support

Before Oak and Apex can distribute your book, you’ll need to create accounts with the publishing platforms you want to use. This allows you to receive royalties directly and comply with each platform’s tax and payment requirements. We’ll handle the publishing process for you — you just need to complete your account setup.

1. Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)

https://kdp.amazon.com

What to do:

  • Create or sign in to an Amazon account.
  • Complete your author/publisher profile (name, address, phone).
  • Enter your bank details (IBAN/BIC or US account).
  • Complete the tax interview (W-8BEN for non-US authors).
  • Once complete, your KDP account will be ready to receive royalties.

Notes:

  • Oak and Apex will handle the book setup and distribution for you.
  • A correct tax form ensures you receive full royalties without unnecessary withholding.
